Acupuncture to enhance your natural fertility

Traditional Chinese medicine treatment methods

The integrative combination of western high-tech medicine and its ancient traditional Chinese variant (such as acupuncture) maximises the effectiveness of fertility treatment and the success of the therapy.

Acupuncture

This healing method is currently the most common treatment in the traditional Chinese medicine repertoire. In contrast to the use of medication, acupuncture works solely via external stimuli. It regulates and stimulates bodily functions from specific points on the body that affect various organs in the body. A complex system of energy channels (called meridians) provide more than 300 points that can be used to administer acupuncture. Additional tried and tested points outside the meridians are also exploited for therapeutic purposes. (Source: Schweizerische Ärztezeitung [Swiss Medical Journal]; 2012)

Acupuncture – enhancement of natural fertility

Acupuncture treatment has proven particularly effective among people suffering from fertility issues. It intensifies the flow of blood to the uterine vessels, aids the menstrual cycle and fosters an increased sense of holistic well-being, which, in turn, increases the chances of pregnancy.

Acupuncture as preparation for artificial insemination

Acupuncture has a positive effect on the female reproductive cycle as a supplement to artificial insemination. For example, it may increase the amount and effectiveness of the mucous membranes, promote maturation and enhance the quality of the eggs. The ideal time to prepare for this is two to three cycles before artificial insemination. (Stener-Victorin 2012)

Acupuncture immediately before and after embryo transfer

Administration of acupuncture shortly before and after IVF ICSI stimulates the immune system, blood circulation and the autonomic nervous system.

Before the transfer

  • The treatment is intended to set you at ease, which, in turn, relaxes the uterus. Acupuncture encourages the cervix to open, so the embryo can be transferred to the uterus more easily.

After the transfer

  • The treatment facilitates blood flow to the uterus, which aids the implantation and growth of the embryos.
  • It also helps to reduce uterine contractions, which is beneficial for implantation of the embryos.
  • Stress and uncertainty can be reduced through a positive influence on the autonomic nervous system, thus relaxing the body.

Acupuncture treatment is performed at our centre immediately before and after the transfer.
