An Insight into the Security System in the IVF Laboratory

As part of our therapy standard, our security system ensures that oocytes, sperm, and embryos are handled and stored properly. We have two systems in place to ensure traceability and the security of the samples.

On the one hand, there are many parameters in an IVF laboratory that need to be properly set to achieve good results. Our internal quality management includes regular checks of all equipment. Additionally, we monitor the temperatures of the heating plates and incubators on a daily basis, as this is one of the critical parameters for optimal embryo development. Moreover, we have the continuous and automated monitoring system called Log&Guard, which continuously measures various parameters and raises an alarm in case of deviations from the optimal conditions. The alarm is directly sent via SMS to the relevant professionals and only stops once the issue is resolved.

Furthermore, all important laboratory equipment is connected to emergency power to prevent any problems in case of a power outage.

Our second monitoring system is the RI Witness System, which helps us prevent mix-ups of patient samples. Each sample and every subsequent step is encoded with an RFID chip to ensure continuous control of workflow. If an incorrect sample is detected on the working area, the system raises an alarm before any error occurs.

Additionally, our statistics are regularly monitored to be able to respond to any changes (troubleshooting). They are recorded and comply with the guidelines of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
