Office hysteroscopy as a valuable addition in diagnostics

After a successful introductory phase, we have been offering office hysteroscopy as a targeted addition to our diagnostic repertoire since the beginning of 2021. This procedure involves a uterine examination that no longer requires a referral to a hospital or anesthesia.

During ongoing consultations, if a diagnostic hysteroscopy is indicated, for example, due to a suspicious ultrasound finding, it can be performed immediately at our center, allowing for an immediate and definitive diagnosis. External referrals to a hospital for the examination are no longer necessary.

With careful preselection, the vast majority of patients tolerate the procedure very well and generally appreciate it as it provides immediate answers to suspected diagnoses that can be unsettling at times.

The technical equipment at the 360° Kinderwunsch Zentrum Zürich is readily available within moments if needed. As a result, examinations are often indicated and carried out on short notice. This helps to reduce unnecessary additional consultations, hospital referrals, waiting times, periods of uncertainty, anesthesia, and costs.

In the first 12 months, the method has helped diagnose the following conditions, among others: intrauterine adhesions (Asherman syndrome), Müller's anomalies, polyps, placental remnants, fibroids, and chronic endometritis. Conversely, a normal finding in the office hysteroscopy can contribute to couples embarking on further fertility treatments with greater confidence.

In conclusion, after more than a year, office hysteroscopy enables our patients to achieve faster and more efficient diagnosis, reduces costs, efforts, and unnecessary anesthesia, improves the quality of treatment, and increases patient satisfaction.
