Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) - made in Zurich

We are pleased to announce that after a period of intensive preparation, we can now offer Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) at our fertility center.

Thanks to our collaboration with our partner laboratory, Genetica AG, we are able to provide comprehensive and timely consultations to couples affected by genetic conditions. Through the establishment of a specialized network and the formation of a PGT Board, we can offer targeted indications and genetic diagnostics, enabling a collaborative expert consensus.

PGT is a genetic examination of embryos before they are transferred back into the uterus. A few cells are extracted from the embryo for analysis before it is cryopreserved (frozen) until the genetic analysis results are obtained. We work with Genetica AG for genetic analysis, ensuring a quick and seamless transfer of samples on-site. Based on the genetic results and the morphological quality of the embryos, a joint decision is made on the most suitable embryo for transfer into the uterus. There are three forms of PGT, each differing in the genetic analysis question being addressed.

PGT-A, aneuploidy screening, determines whether an embryo has the correct number of chromosomes. The aim of PGT-A is to identify euploid (normal chromosome count) embryos for selection in the embryo transfer, which can facilitate faster pregnancy achievement and reduce miscarriage rates.

PGT-M is utilized when there is a concern about the inheritance of a severe monogenic disease (e.g., cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease). This form of PGT requires both the feasibility of technical analysis and compliance with legally mandated approval criteria. The third form is PGT-SR, which examines the chromosomes for structural rearrangements, typically translocations.
